Asif Ehsan, founder and managing attorney of EHSAN LAW / EHSAN LEGAL GROUP, is not only a dedicated immigration attorney—he is also a living testament to the transformative power of opportunity, resilience, and service.
Asif has been a direct beneficiary of this country’s generosity. He first came to the United States as a Fulbright Scholar, earning his Bachelor’s degree from Macalester College in Minnesota. He later returned through a U.S. Department of State-funded scholarship to complete his Master of Laws (LL.M.) at Washington and Lee University School of Law in Virginia. On both occasions, after completing his studies, Asif returned to Afghanistan with a deep commitment to help rebuild his homeland into a democratic and prosperous society.
His dream was to use the legal education and values he had gained in the United States to help create a justice system that served the people of Afghanistan. He worked in various legal and reform-focused roles and taught law at the university level—contributing to efforts to promote the rule of law in a country struggling to heal and grow.
However, after completing his Juris Doctor (J.D.) at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, the situation in Afghanistan was deteriorating significantly. Returning was no longer safe. Asif was forced to make an incredibly difficult choice: to remain in the United States and start over once again—this time as a refugee.
It was during this time of deep uncertainty that Asif became the client of a skilled and compassionate immigration attorney. Through that attorney’s tireless advocacy, he was able to secure the legal right to remain in the United States—to rebuild his life with safety, dignity, and purpose. That experience didn’t just alter the course of his life—it became the foundation of his life’s mission:
To advocate for your opportunity to build a new life in the United States, so you too can contribute to this great country.
Before starting his own firm, Asif served as a prosecutor in Minnesota and Washington, handling cases from charging to trial. He also served as a judicial law clerk to two district court judges in Minnesota, gaining deep insight into how judges evaluate legal arguments and make decisions across a range of cases.
These experiences—combined with his international legal background, personal immigration journey, and unwavering commitment to service—now shape how Asif practices law. At EHSAN LAW, he has been working with his support staff including the Senior Associate Attorney, bringing his clients the strategic clarity of a trained litigator and the compassionate understanding of someone who has walked a similar path.
Asif’s work is more than legal representation—it is a way to give back to the country that gave him safety, opportunity, and a new beginning. Through his practice, he helps others secure their own right to build a life in the United States and contribute to its future, just as he has.
